Default My disappointing surprise

Here is the condition I found my truck in, after an 18 wheeler did a hit and run on it. What the hell is wrong with people?

That bites!! I had basically the same thing happen to me on my old 01 F150 I had before I got my Ram. Went in a salvage yard to get a part for my nieces car, came out and someone had drive down both doors on the driver side, and of course, their cameras didn't work. Cost me $1000 deductible to get it fixed. Traded it in on my 08 Ram not long after.
Hopefully, it can be fixed and not cost an arm and a leg.

That sucks. How do you know it was an 18 wheeler if it was a hit and run?

A witness left me a note and as I waited almost 2 hours for the cops to show a couple of other folks said they saw it too. The cops seem reluctant to help despite the fact that the witness took a picture of the license plate. It's a damned shame that a suspect gets the benefit of doubt simply by denying they were there.

Cops don't like to mess with Commercial Drivers for some reason.

Well she is finally in the shop!!! The detective wouldn't even give the suspect's info to my insurance company!?!* So my insurance ended up running it as an uninsured motorist claim....I guess they will pursue the trucking company later. It wasn't totalled and they will be replacing my aftermarket parts as well. I can't wait to get her back.

Hope it works out for the best. Sucks that they aren't really going after the driver. My wife got sideswiped by a Kenworth in 2007, and it took over three years for all the legalities to end up being settled.

Really sorry that happened to you! If the driver wasn't an owner/operator, I would bet that the trucking company has a GPS unit in that rig. If you can get the police to cooperate, I bet you could get the data from the GPS to prove that the truck was there at the time of the accident. Heck, for that matter, it's possible the truck even has a dash cam. No guarantee that data hasn't been wiped already, but missing dash cam footage and a positive GPS hit would look mighty suspicious when paired with eye witness testimony.

I'm no lawyer, but that sure seems like a valid case in my mind....

Good luck! I hope you get your truck back soon!
