Just out of curiosity do you still have this same set up today? If so how did the out come of the rewiring play out in the long run? I'm considering trying this.
Yes, I still have this same set up today. Everything is still working fine. I haven't even had any bulb failures since doing this conversion. As mentioned above, you could go the replacement route, but when I did this originally, I was looking for the stock look with LED advantages. At the time I did this, all the after market tail lights looked cheap... didn't care for them. So, yes the rewiring has stood the test of time.
