Check Engine: EGR Valve
I recently had acheck engine come on and had my friend put his scan tool on it. Came up EGR.Replaced EGR disconnected battery and light went off. Now 2 weeks later lighton again. Do you need scan tool to clear code? I highly doubt there is somethingelse popping up but why did it takes weeks to come back on?

Most likely. You will have to pull the egr valve. Sea foam and pipe cleaners work great.

So you don't need to clear code with scan tool?

Was it a P0404 code? If so, Chet and I have been
adding to the most recent discussion I found when the problem started with my truck a few months ago. We should probably keep it confined to one thread as I still have the light illuminate and then extinguish every few weeks. Someone I knew stated to check the tube before assuming the EGR is bad.

OMG that's what's happening to me. The light just went off again yesterday. I am thinking the EGR wasn't bad and the build up inside is throwing the code? Hopefully we can figure this out..
