Default Mobil 1 vs Mobil 3000 High-Mileage

Hi Fellas

The truck's a 2003 1500 4.7L V8; it's got 182,000 miles on it; I only use 5w-30.

I really want to make sure that the engine is getting the best protection in a real 4-season environment. I normally use Mobil-1 5w-30; I guess that's fine. But I've been reading about the so-called "high-mileage" oils and there seems to be quite a few benefits what with the extra detergents, etc. for engines like mine, but where I am now located there seems to be only Mobil-3000 High-Mileage available.

In your opinion, is it worth switching to the Mobil 3000 High-Mileage? or stick with good old Mobil-1? or frankly...

is there any real difference?

I sure would appreciate comments and opinions. Thanks, all!

You can get high mileage in a full synthetic from mobile. There is also seal softening agents which may help with leaks or prevent them. There are benefits of running the high mileage.

I run the Pennzoil Gold 5w 30 in my 4.7, truck has 198000 miles on it, since first oil change went with the synthetic blend, very happy, change oil every 4500/5000 miles and use mopar filter. still a solid running motor and very happy with the performance, looking to get 300000 miles before purchasing another truck.

If you have no issues, I would stick with what you have been using. I have seen issues where if there is buildup in an older engine, the high mileage oils can break stuff loose and clog up the oil pump pickup and starve the engine of oil. If you have no leaks or oil burning issues, I would stick with the Mobil 1.
