Default 2002 Ram 4.7 to 4.7 HO Long block question

I have a 2002 Ram 1500 quad-cab with a 4.7. Cyl 1 valve seat dropped. I debated trying to swap in a hemi with harness etc, but am settling for either rebuilding my engine with 10:1 pistons and using a 2008 intake, with AirRam adaptor with fastman 70mm throttlebody. or ordering an 4.7HO Long Block with same intake. Is there any reason I cant order the longblock and use my externals and intake? I am assumong I will have to reprogram PCM? I planned on JBA shorty headers, Scavenger Y-pipe and 3" exhaust. Anyone have any thoughts?

It kind of depends on what your goal is. If you want a HEMI beater, then you'll need a HEMI. If you just want a stronger engine, rebuild what you have.

You might be able to find an HO long block, but as I understand it the main difference from your engine would be the pistons. I am no HO expert. AIRRAM could give you the rundown. You might also check Allpar. Your 10:1 pistons will be a bit higher. If you have your heart set on an HO, you would need to find some HO cams (very difficult nowadays) as well. Someone might have some 206s, which would work but would need a tune, I believe, to run their best.
Your parts list should work just fine for a rebuild. Or, your externals should work with a long block.

How many miles are on your engine? Mine just crossed 100k (woo-hoo!).

I have the HO cams, factory 07 intake (as good or better than the HO, but the 08 has more top end), Magnaflow 3" muffler, Flowmaster Ypipe, ATI under drive, and a Superchips 91 tune. Makes for a nice running truck.

go with a direct replacement engine, I have a 2005 4.7 with minimal upgrades, 206 cams, 70mm tb, cai.and a 125 shot of nos. 210000 mile on motor now, and it still begs to be beat. tuned with sct. even tho its a Dakota, I shock the crap out of r/t chargers. if your on fb. get intouch with Ryan Hogan, fly'n ryan performance, he has all the info you will need
