Default coolant smell but not from heater coil

I have noticed a smell of coolant in the cab of my 03' ram slt but it doesnt seem to be the heater coil due to no white smoke. it has never overheated and the radiator is full. I had the mechanic check when i had my oil changed and he said the radiator was pooring coolant when the heat was on. I have not driven it since then (0ct) but when i drove it today i checked the coolant level and it was full, Is there something I should check. I dont mind replacing the radiator but I want that to be the real issue. Any advice??

I think you mean the heater CORE... and I doubt there would be white smoke if it was leaking. Still, you can smell a radiator leak from inside the truck. Get the truck up on ramps or jackstands, run it and see where the leak is coming from. You can also rent or borrow a radiator pressure tester, pump it to the max pressure noted on your radiator cap, get under and wait for the leak to show up.

Check passenger floor. Is the carpet wet? Heater core.

when i had a leaking core I also ended up with excessive moisture on the windshield, i had left a window cracked and thought the moisture was a result of the window being open and the carpet getting soaked.

as others mentioned you will more than likely smell coolant on the interior of the truck.

Not always. On my 97, there was a faint smell of coolant all the time even though the carpet was dry and no white smoke. Sometimes, the windshield looked odd closer to the vents, as if there was white smoke.

I pulled the heater core to discover several pinhole leaks.
