UNDER HOOD MODS IN TEXAS
I had an 01 Jeep Wrangler that I installed a K&N CAI on. I could not get it inspected because of it. Before I start doing anything like that with my truck, I was wondering if any of you have had the same problem. I was finally able to find a guy to do the inspection, but I don't think he was up to speed on everything. None the less I got my sticker. I find it very to hard to belive that you can not get your vehicle inspected if you have underhood mods on it.
We do have emissions in my county. There was nothing to install on the CAI. It was prettymuch just the tube and the breather hose. But the tech was VERY (read a jacka**) adiment about not being able to inspect it. I called around and other places told me teh same thing. I was finally able to find one of those 10 min inspection places and he hooked it for me. I just would rather not spend the $250 or so for a FIPK and have to take it off and on to get my truck inspected. The kit really helped witht he gas milage on the straight six in the wrangler, hope it would with the truck also.
Just be sure that the parts are approved for emissions tested vehicles, especially CARB. I know you're not in California, but they have the most stringent standards in the US as far as I know. If it is CARB approved, I don't see why it wouldn't be approved in Texas.
I don't know what county you're in but I'm in Kaufman county outside of Dallas county and I'm willing to bet you used one of those "Quick Lube" places for the inspection. I've never heard of such especially on an 01! It doesn't matter on the "mods" (to an extent) as long as the computer says it's ok. With the OBDII system, they don't even check under my hood on my vechicles! Just horn, lights, e-brake, tires and computer. You got screwed by some oil monkey on a power trip. Everytime I have used one of those places it has been a bad experience. Once they even BURNED UP MY TRANSMISSION by overtightening the straps on the wheels on a 93 Subaru Loyale then taking off in 2nd gear WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON!!!!!!!!!
Absolute idiots and yes, it's a universal statement. I have NEVER seen an educated person at one of those overpriced stations!

I am from Grand Prairie, and yes, it was a quick lube place. I learned that on '96 and newwer they just plug everything into tthe computer vice using the tail pipe tester. I have learned the error in my ways with them, especially when he hot rodded the jeep out of the stall. I guess he liked the way the intake sounded. Which did sound good on the jeep and am sure it wouldsound great on the 4.7. Well I was positive that others had used CAI and were able to get their truck inspected. Just curious if they swapped OEM each year to get it done.
I take my Ram and Liberty to the Dodge Dealer in Alliance and have always had great service when it comes time to do the emmisions deal. Good luck man.

In the old days you had to use your stock air cleaner and heat riser tube from the manifold. Newer cars don't have that anymore, so the guy probably hasn't stayed up to date?
Just buy a new truck every two years and let some one else worry about it...
No serious i always went back to the dealer, and have had zero problems, seems like dealership techs are more up to date than most garage mechanics anyways. The service department needs the money.
