Default Coolant Reservoir Question

My 2004 Ram has this coolant recovery bottle, but has a rubber plug in the hole where the hose by the lid is in the photo. Where did this hose connect when it was there? Was it just an overflow tube?

Is there a tube on the bottom of the lid, that goes into the tank? If there isn't, likely just an overfow tube.

The smaller of the two tubes pictured goes from the radiator fill neck to the end of the reservoir. Thanks for the reply.
