Engine, trans, t-case, wiring harness, PCM. Maybe driveshafts. Possibly other little stuff as well. Best bet would be to find a donor truck, that got wrecked, buy the whole thing, get your swap done, sell what's left.

Welcome to DF!

I thought there was more to it, i was told the trans would bolt up to a 5.7, and that the wiring harness is the same, that i would only need the computer, was hoping because they did make the same truck same year with the 5.7 it wouldnt be too much of a hassle.

It's likely a direct bolt in. I am more familiar with the 2nd gens, so, it may be as easy as they say. Is it the same trans behind both motors? Or did the v-8 get a meaner one? My biggest concern there would be installing the new motor, only to have it smoke a less capable trans.

Ermahgerd, so many threads on this lol...ok, not a direct bolt in per se. Yes, it will physically bolt in, as in to the cradle and transmission (4.7 and 5.7 use the same trans). That's where the easy part ends. Your 4.7 PCM might be able to run it if you convert to a cable throttle body. If you go full conversion you will need the pedal, PCM at least and associated harnesses. You will have to get everything VIN matched to run properly (if at all). If there are any voltage irregularities it will screw up a CANbus system (VERY sensitive). By the time it's all said and done, hopefully you will intend to keep it forever or til it dies, because you'll never be able to trade it in on anything being a one off mutant.

I know right? I'd like to merge every one of these "engine swap" threads (seems a new one pops up every day) into one big thread and sticky it.
