When does your gas light ding?
03 QC
When mine dings the over head says I have like 30 miles or 2 gallons. When I fill it up I have never put more then 20gallons in? I thought they had 26 tanks? That means that my light dings at 6gallons? Is it different for the laramie??

Nope, it's the same. Mine dings when I have around 50 miles left via the computer. I normally run it all the way down to 0 and still have gone about 20 miles or so before I filled up. It is more of an idiot light than anything else.
so if I am filling up and only putting in 20gallons my computer is wrong.. it says I only have like 30 miles. how far can you run down on gas? Can you run it down to 25 gallons? how many are needed for it to stay primed and functional?
I think I am going to fill up some 5 gallons tanks and put them in the back and let her run out..

Why bother trying to burn up the pump? The idea of the gas light is for the, as Carlos Mencia says, the "Dee-de-dees" who don't pay attention to thier gauges.
I think in the manual it says that the DTE goes to 0 with 15% left in the tank. So yes, that would leave about 5-6 gallons in your tank when it reads 30 miles.

Mine dings at 21 miles left almost religiously. If I am cruising it always waits that long and if I start it up near empty it will ding a little sooner. If I turn it off after the idiot light comes on it jumps to zero most of the time. The lowest I have ever drained it called for 25.3 gallons of fuel. I wanted to make it to the place that had the good carwash and discount on gas when you purchase one.

I've never ran under 1/8th tank. Usually fill it at 1/4. Never heard the ding or whatever.
Gas stations can have sediment/water in their tanks that gets pumped into your tank when their tanks are getting low.
When you run really low, you pick up this gunk, clog the filters with it or worse yet.
If you've never removed a gas tank then you wouldn't know, but if you have and looked inside, you'll never do that again.

So this one time I drove 525 miles on a tank of gas because there are vast tracts of lousiana that do not make any kind of sense from an urban planning point of view. Unfortunately the gas station was at 525.3 miles so I was pushing a big *** truck down the road whilst my girlfriend steered... the light went on and it sayed 35 miles left... I actually got a little over 80... and did not see one gas station for that entire time period (or the 40 or so miles before that)...
