Don't think so..... Timing is purely controlled by the PCM, there is nothing adjustable about it. Timing chain shouldn't be in that bad of condition, given the mileage.
Unplug the front O2 sensor, and drive without it for a while. Does the problem change?
That O2 sensor has been changed......i'll give it a try.......also there is about a .5ohm difference from the front O2 sensor @5.0ohms and the back one @4.5ohms. The front one is an aftermarket sensor and so is the back one.
And that is what concerns me. I know the second gen trucks really dislike some (most) of the aftermarket sensors...... I am just trying to see if the 3rd gens are the same way. (which really wouldn't surprise me.)
Well I circled back to that O2 sensor and low and behold the problem is gone for now.............so to answer the question on after market sensors used on 3rd gen rams....only use Mopar products!!. I changed both sensors and noticed a big change immediately. Drove it to work today so far so good. I think the problem is solved. Thanks for all the input.
