Default High Mileage 4.7L

My son is looking at an '02 1500 with a 5" lift with the 4.7L motor and 240,000 miles. I don't know much about the 4.7 other than oil concerns due to lack of maintenance. I'm a bit old school and the mileage scares me, any thoughts?

That would make me nervous as well...... I have seen them with higher mileage, but, I have also seen them blown up with a lot less..... Some other questions I would have are: What size tires on it, and what gears in the diffs? Still the original trans?

I know it has 20" tires on it, not sure about the rest of the drive train's history and condition. I'm going to look at this weekend and can get more details. From the brief conversation I had with them and the pictures, it "appears" that it was well taken care of. The motor was my main concern but I'm also wondering about the trans as well. I appreciate the feedback.

They're asking $6k. It's a clean, straight truck but I haven't gotten a good look at the rockers yet.

It's worth checking out at any rate....... Have a look, get some more info, and see what you think of it in person. I would also be tempted to run it up the flagpole at KBB, and NADA, and see what THEY think its worth..... Give you a baseline on value at any rate. If the truck is in good shape, worth more than what they are asking, and doesn't need a boatload of work right out of the gate, might be worth buying, even if you have to replace a motor or trans soon.

Biggest thing for me would be tire size, and gears. If he is running big tires, with low (numerically) gears... thats just not good for the trans.

2 or 4 wheel drive? Regular cab or quad cab? What trim level? IMO, 6k for a 15 year old truck with that many miles is too much. For example, a 2002 quad cab short bed 4x4 around me is between $2400 - $3700.
