Default Help with 2004 ram 1500 Speaker/radio problems

DISCLAIMER: This is my first post on Dodge forum's, so I apologize if something is out of place or I am missing some information that is needed. Feel free to message me and I appreciate all help.

I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab, and I've had it a couple years with minimal issues. Recently the electronics on her have started acting up in little ways, front lamp connection going out or coming back on on bumps, radio not turning off when I turn off the truck, or radio not responding to volume changes. All of these problems are part of having an "older" vehicle so I have no problem with them, but just this week my last speaker stopped working. I realized my other speakers have been dying off over time, but I wouldn't notice as the speakers that were on the driver side were holding strong. The last speaker died noticeably with the audio becoming distorted at any medium or high volume, and after five minutes of listening to music at a low volume it went out completely. I have a speaker in each door, not sure about the sizes and have no idea how to check without taking the door apart. Thanks for the help!

You can't check a speaker without pulling the door panel off or the radio out. Honestly the door panel is relatively easy to take off. Once it comes off the speaker is right there. Pull it out and bench test for impedance and using a different source.

Get the right tool for the door panel clips...... Saves some hassle.... and less likely to break the door panel.

If you're asking about speaker size, the front speaker openings are oval and will fit either a 6.5 or a 6x9. The rear is round and a 6.5 fits.

There's no way to check other than physically pulling the inside part of the door off? I was checking around online and I'm almost certain I have the four speaker variety that became available in 04. I heard there's a way to check for infinity by a little sticker/engraving on the driver door so ill do that when I get home to my truck.

You can enter your VIN and get your build sheet.

Hey guys, Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, had a little drama going on. I checked my VIN on Dodges website and it says my truck has four speakers. Where should I go from here? Is there any checks I can do to make sure the speakers themselves failed? I am hesitant to buy new speakers unless I have to because of the electrical problems my truck has. Thanks again

Only way to know for sure is to take a known good speaker and hook it up at each point. If the good speaker works, your original speaker is bad, If the good speaker still doesn't work, it's either the head unit or the wiring to the speaker.

I don't have much experience with electronic work, but I can figure it out through google. Would any type of speaker work? Would it be best If I purchased one speaker that I know fits that slow such as a 6x9?

That seems plausible.
