Default 5.9l 360 vs 5.7 hemi

Since I got my 03 5.9 360, I've been wanting to modify it for speed. I love it to death. New camshaft, lifters, heads, bigger intake, new exhaust, crankshaft, tranny, and more when it comes time. How far I am willing to go will obviously determine how fast I go, point being why fix up my 5.9 if a 5.7(especially 4th Gens) have that speed and power With no mods? Makes me think if I were to do the things that I wanna do to my 5.9 to the 5.7, the 5.7 would be that much further ahead. Should I keep my 5.9, or switch to the hemi? Thoughts please

I didn't realize the other thread was for problems, and saw this thread after the fact.

You will be able to get more 'bang for the buck' from the 5.7, that's quite true, but, careful how new you go. The fourth gens had VVT, MDS, and some other bells and whistles that will make it difficult to adapt to work properly in an older truck......

I love the 3rd gen bodies so hopefully I can find an undercoated 06-08 hemi with no dings.. I haven't dug into the hemis info as much as my 5.9, but are there different models of the hemi such as the magnum and la series for the 5.9, or are those the 4th and 5th gens engines?

Many different iterations of the hemi. If you're shooting for a later 3rd gen (06-08) 1500, this the first generation of the 5.7 (pre-eagle). These are easier to hop up than an eagle 5.7 (09+), since all they have is MDS (which can be disabled or removed completely). There is a plethora of things you can do to it, the biggest handicap being the transmission; the 545RFE just won't hold up to larger power levels. That being said, I think chefred is still running an RFE in his 05 quad cab 2wd. Before he rebuilt/stroked the engine he was running high 12's all motor (mid 12's with nitrous). At 256,000 miles he did the engine and is now running mid 12's all motor and if I recall correctly was approaching 12 flat with nitrous.

A manual transmission would be best for what I want but I'd like to be able to cruise and not have to pay attention to shifting. I might end up trying what chefred has done. Does he have his build, what he did first to last and what not besides stroking? Not sure what order I should go about modding the hemi so I can avoid any issues between driving.
