Melting Coil Packs???
04 Ram 2500 5.7l SLT--- My 2nd & 4th coil packs melted, I've replaced all plugs, wires, & coil packs but when I start my truck the #4 cylinder coil pack is still getting hot??? Its giving me trouble codes on both the B & D coils, it says secondary circuit, What is the secondary circuit? I'm a single mom and do all the work on my truck that I am capable of doing, I don't want to go to a shop and have them rape me on the bill but it seems the only other problem could be with the computer & I can't begin to go there. I need help diagnosing the problem hoping I can fix it myself and return this rental car thats costing me $400 week!!
In the pic above on the #4 cylinder the wires coming out of the clip that attaches to the coil don’t look good, I’m thinking maybe a bad ground on the #4. If my coil pack melted then the wires might be fried as well right? Could that be why the #4 coil still gets hot after replacing everything with new parts? Should I replace the clip?
Wouldn't hurt to clean them at the very least. How old are the plug wires?
Someone else did the conversion to the newer style coil packs, that fire both plugs on the same cylinder. (no plug wires) That might be an option as well.
