Swapping PS pump to Electric PS Pump?
Any Ram 3rd generation PPL swapping their conventional PS pump to electric power- steering pumps. On my third replacement within the last 20k on the '04 2500 Hemi, shaft seals seems too weak and the re-builders continue to turn-out trash after trash.
Thks "HeyYou", "HemiLoneStar" and all GoatDrivers and GoatRiders, I thought I would throw out the question to this community and see if anyone has broken out of this belt-driven PS pump bond since their 1st PS vehicle rolled off their assy line. Electric PS pumps are here, its just a matter of think-tanking this mode to reality. Installing a idle wheel on the serp-belt inplace of the PS pump pulley, electric PS pump power latched with the fuel pump relay, hard mounting the electric pump. ---- Yes thanks, I came from the OEM w/the 1st failure, smoked two O'reilly life-time warranteds and I will go back to the stealer-ship for an OEM replacement (probable using the same sleeve bearings). 071218.
Well.......considering PS pumps aren't really a huge known failure point on these trucks, one has to wonder; what is the common denominator here...(check mirror)? Go ahead, engineer your electric steering in a vehicle not designed for it. Let us know how that goes lol. This is like those "I have a 3.7/4.7/5.9 and I wanna install a hemi" questions that pop up regularly LMAO.
Your, 'LOL'?? Your, 'Vehicle not designed for it'? FYI to all others than HemiLoneStar, because he has told us here how much he knows about the steering subject, the vehicle's rack&pinion could NOT care ANY less the source(s) or placement of its pump as it receives the proper incoming fluid pressure. ----- Weighing this aux power source idea I just found in the 'mirror', by installing a aux PS pump to let the newly installed electric PS pump go idle, add a pop-up windmill PS pump after the vehicle goes into cruise-control mode (modeled after all our acft pop-out pumps). : ) ---- HemiLoneStar, I'm sure you being on this forum is better than being s a critic to one's ideas by kicking them in the knees. Its common knowledge, "Contributing comments" are welcomed to/for most treads placed here. BTW, there is no wrong here to, 'I wanna', there are no wrong, bad questions. Being a rated 'Champ', post count 3.5K+ I bet, some of those numbers were supportive to the one's in need?
Wow man chill a bit there. No one was kicking you down. All he was saying is that from the “factory” these trucks were not designed to have an electric power steering pump, for that matter they weren’t designed to have a lot of things we have done to them done from the “factory”. You can do it all you want,it’s your truck and your money. If you do it I am kinda curious on how it will turn out/work and how reliable it is. Who knows you may be on to the next aftermarket big thing

Thanks rtmtrrdr for your comment. I'm here, the best goat site on the web for sound info to correct broken stuff or ideas to better the ride. I just didn't care to re-machine an idle wheel assy for a modification as i'm thinking if there has been someone in this community that has already traveled that road. ----- I do recognize an attempted 'kick-down' when it was as blatant as 'LOL' and 'mirror' in responds to my simple inquiry. Did he have a 'LOL' when he found out baseballs were going to be stitched for now-on because duct-tape was separating on slam hits? ---- My engine test stand, i'm modifying an existing serp driven PS pump for the idle wheel to deal with serp belt issues for now, go from there, remote mount the elec PS pump, relayed on the fuel pump's relay called circuit.
