Default 2004 1500 5.7 hemi spark plug issue

have one cylinder with both spark plugs smashed - strap smashed against electrode. Engine runs - no noise, no oil pressure loss, no coolant leaks, no coolant issues, no sign of oil in coolant, no signs of coolant in oil, idles rough (i would imagine it's the plugs not sparking).
On a very short drive engine will accelerate but has a hard time to find idle when coming to a stop - stutters but comes back to ile RPM.
What would cause plugs to get smashed? Any thoughts??

Improper installation springs immediately to mind. If you put in new ones, do they get smashed as well? If so, I think you have bigger fish to fry......
