Default 08 3500 in Tow Haul mode

I have a 08 3500 DRW 6.7L Diesel 160K miles.
I use the truck to haul a 15K lb 5th wheel. When towing I have it in Tow Haul mode. On acceleration it shifts fine. When I decelerate it down shifts kind of hard. If I take the tow haul off when I decelerate it's nice and smooth.
Anyone have this issue? Or what might be going on?
TIA.

I think that's normal, the pcm gives harder shifts to aid in engine braking, and not allow the clutches to slip quite as much.

Should be using your exhaust brake, tow haul raises the down shifting rpm and holds lockup to 2nd gear to keep rpms high and make the brake most effective
