2003 ram 2500 unusual noise

Default 2003 ram 2500 unusual noise


I have a Dodge Ram 2500 5.7 hemi I just rebuild the upper end of the motor and now has this rattle noise during start up goes away when truck warms up and kinda comes back when in higher rpms there’s a YouTube video of the sound under mrbross2009

Valve tick means they it's not getting enough oil on the top end. Now if you have the Hemi you have to live with it as it's not called the Hemi Tick for nothing lol

Did you replace your lifters when you rebuilt the top end?

no I did not as it never made the noise prior and everything was tight before I put it back together

Now I think it might be coming from in between the engine and transmission as I push on the thin plate that covers the flex plate it quites down

The bolts I never touched but now that recall I’m thinking that it has to do with oil on top of the motor cause it never made that noise till after I had everything back together so I’m gonna pull the valve covers off and recheck my work. The transmission has not been touched or removed

I did a cam swap on mine and it sounded terrible and i had all the right parts in it pushrods, springs, locators and shims and now that i replaced the lifters its like new again with no noise the lifters on the older motors are junk i used Hellcat lifters in mine.
