Question oil on my spark plugs----need knowledge

First off, thank you for your time. I have a 2006 ram 1500 SLT with a 4.7liter engine, when I pulled the plugs to see if it was still in time, I found 3 plugs on passenger side had oil in the holes. None on the drivers side had oil, all of them were dry. Is this a cracked head or a blown head gasket, because there is no logical way oil can leak fron valve cover and fill the holes. And it is still perfectly in time. One coil had a split boot.

I would have a compression test done on it. They can also put a camera with a light on it in the spark plug hole and tell if the head is cracked and see what going on in there. Sorry for your troubles....

Oil in the park plug holes?? Do those go down thru the valve cover gasket on the 4.7?

It's been a while since I owned my RAM with the 4.7 in it, but I remember there being 8 plugs on top of the engine and 8 plugs down but the exhaust. The ones on top of the engine were the intake plugs. I had to buy a special thin wall socket to get them out when I changed them. The ones on top have the coils directly on them and the ones in the exhaust have wires on them.

So, it may just be the valve cover gasket allowing oil to seep into the plug holes..... or drip down on them... depending on which plugs are oily.

That very well could be the issue. I'd replace the valve cover gaskets as well as the plugs. Make sure you use anti-seize on the threads of the plugs and do not over torque them. Torque them to the specified setting for your make and model. You may be able to find the correct torque setting at moparrepair.com

The early 4.7L only had 8 plugs, then they changed them to 16 like the Hemi. When they did that I *THINK* was in 09

My Bad then, sorry for the miscommunication. I had a 2010 with the 4.7 so that would make sense.
