Angry Rumbling Noise While Accelerating?

So I've noticed the last couple of weeks, every few times I accelerate(especially when I start to go up even just a slight hill), I hear and feel a slight rumble for a few seconds then stops while I'm still accelerating. If I let go of the pedal while it's happening, the rumble immediately stops. Happens when the engine is cold and hot. It sounds and feels like my transmission is slipping(just assuming that because my old car's transmission was crap and would always slip, and this seems similar to it) but I know I'm not changing gears when it happens, so could it still possibly be that?

I bought this truck in June, so this is my first few weeks of driving it in cold weather here in Connecticut. Could the weather somehow have something to do with it? Any thoughts on what else it may be? Thanks.

Possibility 1: Road conditions, losing traction. Winter there?
Possibility 2: Worn and failing or stiff driveline universal joints
Possibility 3: Low transmission fluid level, or faulty non-OEM transmission pan filter (cracked)

Failing transmission? -- not likely.
