Default What causes this type of tire wear? (Pic)

Hi, Guys.

First, this is not a Dodge truck. Just asking for some advice here on the forum.

Can you please take a look at this pic and tell me what would cause this type of severe wear. The tire is less than a year old and has deep wear grooves on both sides near the edges. The groove on the outer side is so deep that the tire has split and is now unusable (yellow arrow). The car seems to drive normally, but may be slightly out of line. Air pressure was within spec. It will be getting an alignment soon, but grooves on both sides of the tire has me stumped.

Normally, I would say, severely underinflated...... But, if pressure is right.... Is your gauge accurate? Could be just a bad tire too for that matter. Are any of the others wearing the same way?

Both fronts. The rears look normal. Same tires all around.

Hhhhmmm..... Still, looks like under inflation to me..... I can't think of anything else that would cause it. What pressure were you running them at?

Around 34 psi. I won't say they were never under inflated, but never to the point where it was visually noticeable. The rears are in good shape. I recall checking them for wear a few months ago and not seeing the deep grooves that are there now. It seem strange that they could wear in such deep grooves and so quickly. Crappy cheap tires on the front of a Hyundai Sonata mind you, but even so, they're only around 10 months old.

The Uniroyals on my Dakota are in better shape and they've been on the truck since 2012, with over 75K. Just replaced them this weekend.

I suspect that now you know why they were cheap.

They really shouldn't wear that way. Even on a 3/4 ton truck, at 34 PSI........ If you have any warranty left on them, think I would investigate replacement.
