Default 5.7 Heads... Help

Had the ever so lovely broken valve spring on my 5.7. I got lucky and only slapped once and bent the valve in the head. Do you guys think I am better off to rebuild the stock heads or buy a complete set. If I should go with the new heads do you have any recommendations on supplier or what kind to get? I can get just an OEM replacement out of Oreilly but I have no info on if they are any good. Any advice or help is welcome.

I think I'd get an estimate to make the original good again. Also see what your machine shop says about springs. CompCams or someone like that could probably set you up with better quality stuff than the chain stores, but I'd do a full comparison. How many miles on the 5.7 ? What year is it? I know the 03s had the springs that would break, not sure that persisted into later years. If its an 07+, I'd replace the cam while I had it apart.

2004 with 160k. It will cost me as much to rework the current heads as it will to put chain store heads on them.

My 04 has 164k, perhaps I should swap springs as preventative maint ! Coin toss on the direction with the heads, is there any warranty differences? I'd rather go local, but know of a decent shop.

I will check into a local shop to see if I can get a decent deal. The one closest to me was $800 + tax to test and then replace valves, seals and springs. Did not include the new valve guide that will be needed on #2 cyl. The complete heads from Oreilly are $300 ea. As much as I don't care for buying major components from a box store. That really doesnt sound horrible.

If the O'reilly heads have a decent warranty, go with those.

In addition to the warranty most remans already have the valve seat issue fixed as well (you got lucky lol).

You have no idea how lucky.... pushed valve into valve cover and bent it just enough that it couldn't fall back in. Push rod slipped out of rocker, so no damage there. Just bent valve and pushed the valve guide out. They were new comp cams springs even. No idea what happened here. Will pull the head today or tomorrow and see if I got any piston or cylinder damage.
