Default JEEP liberty engine into DODGE RAM

Good morning,

I have a 2005 dodge ram 1500 3.7l v6 RWD which needs a new engine.
would a 2005 jeep liberty 3.7l v6 AWD work? they both have VIN K 8th digit

I already bought a 2005 dodge Dakota AWD 3.7 v6 engine (VIN K 8th digit as well) but that one did not fit. the torque converter did not fit into the shaft of the engine. there is a bushing that I just cant get out, tried everything, slide hammering it, pilot bearing pulling it, nothing worked.

now im looking into that above mentioned liberty engine and was wondering if that would be an easy swap or if AWD would be a problem for a RWD transmission?

thank you so much

You aren't changing the trans, right? If that's true, then either engine should work just fine. For the one that didn't fit, did it have a manual trans?

nope, not changing my 2005 ram 1500 transmission.
The Dakota engine I bought came out of a 2005 Dakota sport AWD and it has a bushing in the crankshaft. Its not a pilot bearing, its just a bushing that I just cant get out. My RAM torque converter needs an engine crankshaft which needs to be approx. 1.812" in diamenter. The Dakota crankshaft is too small for my torque converter but just because of that bushing sitting in there.

So, liberty 4x4 engine should be an easy swap into my RWD ram? RAM transmission will go in smoothly? not sure what transmission I have in my RAM, a 42RLE or a 45RFE? not sure what the liberty engine would bolt onto but I hope all works out

I'd take the dakota engine to a machine shop and let them get it out. Or take a shot with a die grinder, just don't mangle the crank.

Is this even a bushing?

Is that even a bushing? I get a feeling that this might be part of the crank

Post a pic of the original crank. That pic does make it look like it should be removable, Seems like oxidation has it wedged in there good.

I might have to start trying chiseling it out cause pilot bearing puller and slide hammering didn't work... very frustrating

It appears to be a bushing. 1st....if it does come out does that make the diameter correct for your torque converter ?

You using penetrating oil on it? Soak it good then try to tap it down a little to get it started moving... I know, counter intuitive to make it deeper - but you need to get it broken loose.

Die grinder with carbide burr might make it fast, just don't mar the crank.... or better yet, let a pro machinist take care of it for you.
