Default The downfall of Chevy

hey all,
I'd have to say im a Chevy guy. But i went and got a 04 Hemi ram had a year or so now. and i absolutly love it! The style had totally won me over and well, who could resiste having a "hemi" the engine of engines. Well i work at an auto shop and get to drive some vehicles so ive gotten into the new chevy trucks and what not. Man... its pretty lame and crappy. Chevy doesn't impress me anymore. Dodge has it going on!! Not only trucks but chevy has lost there hot rod cars. Whats going on? Nothing is going good for chevy i think there looks and there car line is just going down hil and they just recently laid off 30,000 employiees. anyone else noticed this? Chevy just isn't as good as it use to be.

Yup. Ford is in the process of cutting some jobs. Haven't heard about any DC lay offs. I hope not.

Yep! At least Ford and Dodge come out with new designs and eye catching techniques to draw in attention. It is almost like chevy has given up. If you get in a 1995 Chevy Silverado, and then you step into a 2006 Chevy Silverado what will you notice? The dash is exactly the same!! The gauges are all set up the same and still the same old yellow and white colors. They are very plain jane. The new Dodge (which I can say I am very proud to own) is awesome. They look great, and the interior is a one of a kind! Very open and comfortable. The New F150's are appealing as well, Chevy, well, haven't really changed a whole lot for manty many years... Oh well, I won't miss em.

Well....as far as Chevy not having a hot rod, I believe that Bowling Green KY still manufactures the Corvette. The Camaro will be coming back in a few years as well. I grew up driving Chevy's and my wife actually drives a GMC Envoy. My company vehicle is an 06 Silverado. I like the truck, not as well as my RAM but it's nice, the 5.3 has power.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I would much rather be driving a Dodge or Chevy than a Ford!!! Sure the F150 looks better than the latest Silverado but what's a good looking truck worth when you can't drive the thing due to being in for repairs 50% of the time??

Truck, I think that is a partisan opinion.

The true test is to ask the people who actually use there trucks for the intended use. I go to my fathers construction sight and all you see are Fords. Lots of new 150s to 350s. My father and his business partner switched to Chevy's and are now in the process of trading them in to go back to Fords.

True enough, I work construction as well and you do see a boatload of Fords. You have to say one thing about them, is that they do take a beating.

I've always been a Chevy guy prior to this Ram, and occasionally start thinking about going back. Then I get back in my Ram (I"ve started to just use it on weekends to keep miles down and drive my 150k mi Wrangler during the week) and think "Damn...I love this truck" and that gets rid of that Chevy silliness.

Just gotta like what ya got.

I am interested in thier new 2007 Silverado. Supposed to be new from the ground up. If no manufacturer progressed we'd all be stuck with leaf springed, solid axled, drum braked....It is only healthy for all of us if the Big 3 survive and continue to make improvements to keep the others on thier toes.

You're right HemiBuell, just an opinion. I think that's all that any of us can give on a topic like this. My Fleet Silverado is driven for it's intended use too. I use the truck on a daily basis to haul myself, usually a 1/4 ton of equipment in the back, and at times, generators to cellular sites. The majority of my sites are off road as well so the 4WD takes a beating.

I've driven several Ford's in the past. I just don't like them. Our company just acquired another wireless company this past year (Nextel) and they have Ford's in their fleet. Sprint uses Chevy's. I'm praying that when the fleets combine, we are still in the Silverado's!! Hell, if it was up to me, I'd be driving a RAM at work also! I would love to see the company go with the RAM. If they did switch to Ram's. They would probably get the 4.7L...for savings. But that's not a bad thing...I hear those 4.7L are a strong engine too!

I've got the 4.7 in my personal and it runs great. I have the 5 speed manual too so that's a positive in my opinion. My next one will be a Hemi though.
