My last quote for Progressive was $2300 for 6 months...needless to say I switched to E-surance...$1200 for 6 months.

I went thru Progressive, State Farm, Geico, and a couple other big name insurance companies for quotes....none came within $500 dollars of what I am paying currently for double the amount of coverage of their "basic" coverage. I'm getting 50k,100k,50k for the same price as most people are getting 25k,50k,25k.

I was quoted some ridiculous amount for upwards of $2500+ from three different companies, although I have ONE speeding ticket since 1999 and only ONE accident since 97......I've had a 2000 Dodge Dakota V6 RC, a 2001 Dodge Dakota V8 CC, and my now 2002 Dodge Stratus R/T V6.....

Why on earth should I be paying this much? I'll tell you why....and this I know for a fact.....

Look at your credit history and how good or bad it is....I've seen people with 5 speeding tickets and a DUI paying less then me, because of their credit only. The fact is, alot of insurance companies are using your credit history to determine your rates and whether they will even take you as a customer. If you think I'm kidding, try it out sometime.... My insurance adjustor is a friend, as I've been with them now for 5 years......and she even flat out told me that some insurance companies will only base rates on your credit.

Now, what in the f*** does your credit have to do with how you drive a car? I honestly for the life of me cannot understand it. Apparently, the only answer I can come up with is they want to make sure you can pay for it....and dont wanna risk it....which is a load of bullsh*t....

I can not confirm nor deny the credit thing, however I think it is law they must ask your permission to run a credit check. You will give them plenty of info for them to do it. Any loan I have ever applied for you have to sign to give permission for the credit check. If done over the phone they record and ask the question. I do not think Insurance, if they are doing this, is exempt for getting permission.

I know they have to ask for permission to run a credit check, but they can run your name and see things without doing a full credit report. Some places require your social security number to run things as well. However, I do know that they do this....as I've seen it done. I had my friend call in on the same car......different vin #.....and they quoted her a cheaper price...despite her having 4 speeding tickets in one year.....all because she had GREAT credit....
