several codes keep coming

Default several codes keep coming

I am working on an 07 1500 with 5.7 hemi. It was in limp mode with crankshaft sensor code and an accelerator pedal position sensor codes. actually 3 of the pedal codes. I changed out bot units at my customers and it did not work after clearing them they came back. did research and found the reset procedures. Did that with no luck. Had the truck towed to my garage and when I went to check it... bam everything was normal. test drove it up and down block and all good. was sitting and idling while wondering wtf when it dies. Tried to restart and codes are back with throttle position stuck open code as well. Later I checked everything and all looks fine. Tried to start it and it works fine. so I cleared the codes again and started it. This time I just let it idle did not touch the accelerator. As soon as it started to warm up it died and threw the same codes including the throttle stuck open code. It was idling normal and I did not touch the accelerator. Had to go to another job so it sat for a day maybe 2. went out started it again running fine until it started warming up at which point it dies. I noticed that now my oil pressure gauge was not coming up all of the sudden either. I dont know where to go from here. Any suggestions will be helpful other that go to the dealer unless it is absolutely necessary. If I can identify the issue and get the part I can most likely repair it.Thank you
if I want to change the wires from the crank position sensor and the oil pressure sensor where can I go to get the pigtails. Will oreilly have them or are they dealer or junk yard and what gauge wire would be best suited for replacement

Post the codes may help maybe camshaft sensor,,maybe the throttle body needs cleaning or replaced,,My 04 ram 5.7 had a bell crank sensor bad which is expensive , its an accelerator pedal position sensor , of course an 07 may be different,,mine was located under the battery box ,the cable from the accelerator pedal ran to it

I will post the codes tonight when I get home. The pedal in this one has no cable it is all electronic. I know p2122, p2111, p0642 and p2138 for sure and I believe p0635 was another one. I will post the rest when I get them. Thanks for your info.

The current codes are P0122, P0335 (twice), P2111, P0642, P2122 and P0520(twice)
Both P0520 codes are pending. P0335 is a stored code that also says mil (reason for check engine light) and confirmed. The others all just say they are stored codes.

Go after the P0642 first. That's

Sensor Reference Voltage 'A' Circuit Low..


Fix that one, and I suspect the rest will simply go away. Basically, what it means is, the reference voltage being sent to the sensors is low. (comes from the PCM.) That is going to REALLY confuse the PCM..... as it will throw off EVERY sensor that gets power on that circuit. I don't have wiring diagrams, so, no clue where to start looking.

I've got you, fam.



Crankshaft sensor circuit pulls a 5v reference from pin 29 of the C2 PCM connector (see below)



Throttle position pulls a 5v reference from the PCM via C2 pin 29 (see below)




C1 and C2 connector locations


Verify you have your 5v reference signals at C1 and C2 connectors, also verify your C2 sensor ground at pin 27

Fixed it!!
Thank you for all of your responses. After going over all of the wires and checking the voltages, which were normal, I greased the connectors and hooked everything up and started it. it was running fine but I did not show oil pressure. I shut the truck off before the light came back on and checked the scanner to find that I was having a malfunction in the oil pressure switch. It was a pending code so no light. I changed the switch and taped all of the connections that had broken clips and it has not had a problem yet. So in all I changed the oil pressure switch, the Crank shaft position sensor and the accelerator pedal.
The wiring diagrams were a great help Prismatic. Thank you for them.

Thumbs up Thanks to everyone

I know this thread is old but I just had this happen on my Dodge Grand Caravan 2014 3.6l flex and this thread helped me out tremendously. I had several of the same codes with the lightning bolt of death and was afraid it was some huge electrical issue. I had just replaced the alternator in September. Ended up being the TPS/throttle body and the crankshaft sensor. I could actually hear a high pitched whine from the TPS sensor motor if I put my head near it. Clearly was having internal issues and makes me wish they just had the cable instead of the sensors. After replacement, checking/greasing all the plugs, and clearing the codes, the van (Vannie as the kids call her) is up and running again.

I have been working on it since November after my thermostat blew. After replacing it along with my water pump I noticed an oil leak which ended up being the oil filter housing. Probably from the high temp spike when the thermostat went. I replaced it with the aftermarket metal one and cleaned the bay of all oil residue. I think after seeing underneath, the crankshaft sensor connection got gunked from the oil leak as it slow leaked down the back of the engine so I cleaned all surfaces under the vehicle with brake clean and greased all the sensor plugs to prevent this in the future. During this whole process I ended up flushing my coolant system twice to make sure no oil had mixed in with the oil filter housing leak and of course changed the oil to make sure its not contaminated and to check to make sure it's no longer leaking. So far so good as it looks dry up top, below, and in the valley where the housing sits.

For anyone having the shutdown stalls with the TPS or pedal codes I would suggest to check the crankshaft sensor as well and also make sure the engine bay is dry around all connections. Thanks to everyone on here who helps each other out. Really great information!
