Default Hesitation/shutter over 70-80 km/h

Hi guys new to the forums,

i got a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9l 360 Magnum

i hot a hesitation/shutter over 70-80 km/h.

it throw me a code P0306 Misfire cylinder #6

this is what i dint on the truck so far everything is under 500km new

- Spark plug Champion Rc12
-Cap
-Rotor
- new ignition
-New Key
-New ignition control module
- new O2 sensor upstream and Downstream
-new plenum gasket
-new intake gasket
-new 180F thermostat
-New IAC
-New TPS
-New Injector Seal
-New Crank Sensor
-New Pickup Coil
-New Belt
-New U-Joint front and back
-rebalance Driveshaft
-New differential front and Back
-rerouted spark plug wire as per TSB
-Clean Throttle Body
-new Trottle body gasket
-new PCV left and right
-new coolant temperature sensor
-new oil change and filter
-new transmission cable at throttle
-New Neutral safety switch

I’ve read a lots of post here while searching online and the problems is still there after all those replacement.

the faulty code only appeared after i drive for an hour + after i erase it.

cold or hot over 70-80 km/h it fell like it misfiring

i test compression 140+- per cylinder on 8 cylinder
i test fuel pressure stable no a single drop
i test driving it with the back O2 sensor remove nothing change

im really confused if somebody could point me in the right direction i do not know we’re to look for the problem!

but it is almost impossible to do highway with the truck since it shudder over 70-80km/h and it’s annoying to do long drive like this.

thanks a lot everyone

xavier

What brand crank sensor did you get? These trucks really don't care for aftermarket sensors in critical locations.... Crank and cam sensors are at the top of the list.

Since everything is new.... might try swapping the injectors on cylinders six, and eight, and see if the misfire moves.

Hi Heyyou thanks for answering!

I did used mopar parts for everything except spark plug.

while i was waiting for an answer i did notice that the truck come with a jet performance chip and decide to try removing it to see if that would solve my problems.

Under the connector C1 where the chip is plug was full of corrosion and 3-4 bent pins!

decide to clean the whole thing and put some dielectric grease! Put back everything together.

try starting the truck....... no start, no cluster, no communication to ecm, crank but no start!

start reding some threats here and found to test connector C1 32 pins pins number 2 and 22 are the one feeding the whole thing!

pin 2 right voltage pin 22 ohhhhhhh nothing!

open connector to find out someone have played here before me and they put a connector inside the connector and it’s full of corrosion and their no voltage! I decide to go Take voltage after the repair on the original wire red/white i got the right voltage.

now i need to replace the C1 connector 32 pins to fix this problems!

do you think that could be my fixer for my problems of hesitation/shutters/missfire ????

Entirely possible. Dirty/bad connections can cause all sorts of truly odd and strange behavior.

Ok perfect i will repair this and report after to see if that fix my problems.

also I’m not a big fan of module that you plug in between connector and pcm!

should i just put it back stock and get a real programmer that you plug on OBD2 to install it like Superchip or Diablo or edge etc etc etc ????

thanks again for your quick answer!

I like programmers a whole lot better than piggy back chips......

@Hey You

I finally got time to fix the connector to the PCM and try it.

result option that wasn’t working now work but the problems still there!

So above 70 Km/h if i push slightly on the gas like i wanna cruise at that speed it start jerking missfiring shuttering impossible to drive but the minute i step on the gas it disappear no more nothing truck is fine just when i slightly press on the gas it start to do the problems after 1/4 on the gas pedal approx truck is fine no problems at all till 140 Km/h the highest I’ve try!

check engine light never come back after fixing the pcm connector black! Before was missfire cylinder 6!

Ive try holding it when it does the problems for miles and miles no code won’t pop impossible to make it code put problems is annoying when trying to hold a speed!

Ive also try 4wd and 2wd nothing change!

I did notice tho that the idle is kinda ruff sometimes when i holding it to make the problems and stop at a light seems like truck having hard time keeping it steady after a good way of jerking!

Wonder if you have a slight vacuum leak there somewhere....... Or a bad TPS, or maybe a marginal MAP sensor. (does your truck use MAF or MAP??) Kinda strange it won't set a code. Do you have a scanner that will show you misfire counters?

@Hey You

I have a Map sensor on this one!

i do not have a scanner that count missfire we’ll i think i would have to check to see if my scanner does missfire count that could help i think.

I was also to replace all the vacuum line from the truck but could find a diagram for it just making sure all the line are properly connected at the right place!

Are there any aftermarket 'performance' parts on the truck? Aftermarket tune, anything of that nature?
