Default Need help with inter change info please

I bought a 2008 ram 1500 mega cab. Strange truck to say the least when it comes to figuring out what parts you need. I'm looking to buy a used engine. Mine is a 5.7 hemi vin d. I am just not sure what are all the years and vins I can put in my ram 1500 mega cab. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

So, even though it says "1500" on the side, that refers to your towing & cargo capacity since you have a gas engine. Frame and running gear (axles, etc) are 2500 based. If you had a Cummins it would say "2500" on the side. You can use any 2003-2008 5.7 from a Ram, though 03-08 2500/3500 & 03 1500 5.7's will be direct bolt-ins, no changes. Using any 04-08 1500 engine will require some minor changes. Your original engine blow up I take it?

03 doesn't use EGR, 04-08 1500 engines do. Only 06-08 1500 engines use MDS. No you do not have EGR, for all intents and purposes you have a 2008 2500; the only thing 1500 about it is its measly towing and cargo capabilities since all the power and structure is taken up moving its girth down the road lol.

You have been a great help my friend. Even though I can find hardly anyone selling engines to be as informed as you are. They don't seem to get it. Surly Dodge made more than one engine for one year of truck. Just another though. If I was to want to buy body parts. Am I going to have the same confusion with interchange?

Most people can't see past what their computer tells them. With body panels you're in luck. Unlike the 4th gen which has several different body parts that don't interchange between LD & HD trucks, all 3rd gen stuff does. The only body panels that are actually different are the dually fenders and tailgate. Megacabs those years are a bit of an odd duck (as you have found out), so while fenders, hood, front doors will interchange, your rear doors can only be sourced from another Megacab, same with the surrounding rear cab sheet metal. Literally depends on what you need.
