Personally, I would be real reluctant to spend that kind of money on a gamble. The cost savings for what you are getting really isn't enough to justify the risk of ending up with a vehicle that will never be right....... But, that's just me.

 

You're not wrong, but the truck itself might not be wrong either. That's why I'm going to take a much closer look at it before I decide if I'm going to pay the rest or try to walk away and get my down payment back. The reason I'm so confused is because of a few issues the truck actually looks good....but you know, if it seems to good to be true..... although I wouldn't say this is necessarily too good to be true, I could definitely see an insurance company writing it off for stupid reasons.

so when they call me and tell me it's ready I'm going to be taking a much closer look at it. It was almost closing time when I Went to see this truck and a lot of assurances were made, so now Im pretty much just waiting to see what's going to happen.
That's why I wanted to get some insight to this vibration issue, I also didn't have my phone with me when I went so I couldn't get a video. is it an issue that's going to require an engine replaement? or is it just something like motor mounts? and if it is motor mounts has any damage been done to the engine if it's been running like that.

Lots of stuff running through my head right now and it's driving my anxiety crazy until they finally call me and say it's ready.

 

Can you get the truck inspected before buying? The vibration could be so many things like hubs, u joint, or propeller shafts.

 

I should also mention, because I''m not sure if I did, but I bought a minivan from the same dealership last year that was an AS-IS deal, and this minivan was clean af, engine bay and everything. It needed about $1200(I might be wrong here, it may have been wayyyy less) to safety and that was some suspension stuff and labor, which is fairly common on those vans I'm told by my mechanic.
The AC didn't and still doesn't work, but this is also super common on the vans with rear AC, and in all the vans I looked at across many dealerships I couldn't find anything that was remotely decent. In one case the cluster was lit up like a christmas tree and not only did the AC not work, it wouldn't shut off and was stuck on heat so there we were test driving a mini van on a 35*C day with the heat blasting at maximum unable to turn it off lol.


so as for the van I bought from that dealership (2010 grand caravan) it was a great deal. it only cost like $4k all said and done, plus what was needed for safety....and again, this was cheaper than other comparable vans and it's been a great van ever since...... I think I'm wrong about the prices though, I don't remember what exactly I paid for it but I'm thinking I actually paid $4k overall for it.

 

Probably could, although I can't see how hubs, u-joint, or prop shafts are going to come into play when the truck is sitting in park and not moving.
Also hubs and prop shafts are part of the safety if I'm not mistaken, so if there' something wrong with those then they HAVE to be done for it to pass a safety inspection.

 

Here's the Ontario inspection standard for light duty vehicles, which is up to 8500lbs.... I'm pretty sure this includes a 2500??
I'll be bringing this with me when they call me back, and I'll be checking many of these things myself.

Is that weight rating for the vehicles capacity? Or it's actual weight? 2500 should have an 8800 pound GVWR...... That may be good, bad, or indifferent.

 

You're right, it is 8800lbs, so it may be held to other standards.... I can't seem to find standards for heavy duty vehicles though

 

They are likely out there somewhere. I seriously doubt they are exempt.

 

I could probably safely assume that a heavy duty inspection would include at least all of the light duty stuff.

I saw a chart somewhere though, and it has like "Light heavy duty" and stuff.

But I also just found out that my insurance company may not even insure a rebuilt title vehicle. My broker will check tomorrow but I don't have high hopes as I'm with a high risk company due to some issues in the past and a charge that I can't remember the exact name of, but isn't quite a full DUI. ....but basically a DUI.

So worst case scenario if this truck is actually worth buying, which I am legitimately questioning as it has a history, then I'd have to wait 4 more years before I could say "I haven't had a license suspension in the last 6 years" then move to another company and insure the rebuilt truck.

or find another company now and potentially pay significantly more than I am now, which is only like $128/month, and it's only that cheap because I'm commercially insured, if I was personally insured it'd be double that.

I find myself between a rock and a hard place because this is basically the truck I've been searching for my entire truck life. and my history on this board goes way back to the first POS I bought.
If this truck doesn't work out I highly I doubt I will ever be able to find another 2005 2500, especially within a price range I can afford, because I sold my business to come up with the money I have now.
