Default Gauge cluster

So I recently found out that the gauge cluster my 2006 Ram 1500 is not the original on that came with the truck. It looks like the previous owner swapped it with another ram but since and the mechanic said since it’s not specific for that truck that’s why it had abs, brake light, and other light on but the previous owner covered it with black tape. But when the mechanic used a code reader no codes came up. So I was wondering if I go to the dealership and get a gauge cluster programmed to my truck if the lights would stay on or go away

That might be your only option: going to the dealer.

Should be able to get your current cluster flashed to your VIN.... that *should* be all it takes. Wouldn't hurt to call them, and ask.

Though, if the lights are on, it SHOULD have at least whined about VIN mismatch........ It concerns me a bit that it did not.... Is your code reader capable of reading ABS/SRS codes??

you can't have it programmed, the dealer has no access to those functions.

Sorry guys, but I've gone through this extensively and talked to FCA
The mileage cannot be programmed, the VIN cannot be reprogrammed.

The ONLY way to get that done is to buy a new cluster from the dealership, who then sends the request to the company that makes them and does all the programming, that company programs a new cluster and sends it to dealer for installation....and the clusters are discontinued and no longer available.

The clusters must also match part numbers as the cluster for each truck is programmed with the features that truck has, such as power windows. if you got a cluster without the power window feature programmed in, then your windows wouldn't work for example.

Maybe this is different with an 06+ but I can promise you a 2002-2005 it cannot be programmed and I can't even count the number of people who have argued up and down that it can be done having never done even a thoughts worth of research into it.

Yeah definitely can't with PCI bus clusters.
You MIGHT (big MIGHT) be able to do it with AlfaOBD if you know someone who has it. I know you can update mileage with it on most Mopar/FCA CAN bus clusters, just no one I know of has tried it on anything that old. Dealership will definitely not be able to do it, which is why they wont touch a used cluster if you have one to install.

Unless somehow you don't actually know that 2002-2005 Rams use PCI bus and 2006 and on are CAN bus....
