Default P0706 - no crank, but tranny ok?

Hey folks,

have trouble with my 08 1500 4x4 5.7 QC:
from one day to the other it did not crank. it attempted, but immidiately shuts off.

tunring the key, attempts to crank, immidiatley shuts off and all PRNDL are lit up. sometimes there is a P0706 sometimes theyre just lit

What have I done so far:
- swopped the starter, checked all connections - power is good and the solenoid at the starter clicks and gets power during start attempts
- cleaned all grounds
- did the gear shifter position test, all C1-C5 are good, all are opening and closing
- transmission solenoid pack is new, new tranny fluid
- engine is turning by hand

this weekend we will swop the ECU and TIPM

any ideas?

anyone of you able to organise and send me the start up procedure? (There must be a documented routine, what is a necessary for startup, where i can check all points)

Cheers - Fred

Won't crank: Starter won't turn the engine over.

Won't start: Starter turns engine, but, engine doesn't fire.

Which are you actually experiencing?

Hi, it won't crank. so the starter attempts to turn over, but stops immediately. but it turns the engine over, while bridging the starter but doesnt start then.

So first it doesnt crank

Can you swap out the starter relay on that?

I have installed a new starter - did not help.

where is the starter relay located? Under the TIPM? does it lead to the P0706

Ah, yes, That code is 'transmission range sensor circuit'...... That would prevent the starter from cranking the motor if it failed. Should be a 5 or 7 pin plug into it, down on the trans, very near where the shift linkage hits.

Thats the big plug in the trans? already pulled and cleaned that one and checked with the SOLLUS SnapOn the Switches C1-C5. All Good. Also did the shifter gear test, passes every time.

So it might be sth in the ECU or the TIPM?

It should be a pretty straightforward circuit..... Unfortunately, I don't have wiring diagrams for it..... If you clear the codes, does it come right back?

Yep, clearing the code it come right up after attemtping to start.

Dodge Germany is not giving me the wiring diagrams...

The Trans-Solenoid is replaced already, gear test performed several times and passed.
Thats the weird thing about it...

Think yer gonna need a service manual for it. I can't find one that I can just download....... the stuff I find online simply isn't accurate. Should be able to find service manuals for download from EBay, or other sources, for not a whole lot of money..... If all the tests pass, but, it still sets the code, something in the circuit is screwed up, and the PCM won't trigger the starter relay.
