In all reality, it simply doesn't matter what brand, dino or synthetic, etc. So long as it meets the requirements the manufacturer wants, and is the correct weight, any oil will do the job.
What is the best oil for your truck?
Mobil
Amsoil
Castrol
Pennzoil
I have read that Amsoil is the best. Any suggestions? Thanks.
All brands claim their oil to be superior. It's a bunch of marketing hype. I read this guy's blog as he pressure tests all kinds of oil to the point of scarred metal.
You'll have to wade thru to get to his actual test results. Amsoil is one of the best oils out there, but the small margin of superiority above other good oils does not justify the much higher expense.
I consider Quaker State Ultimate Durability (QSUD) 5W30 full syn ) to be the best oil for the money It scores high on pressure tests at room temp and high temps and you can buy it at Wally World for about $19 for the 5qt bottle. Now for comparison, a single qt of Amsoil is $13.30. See what I'm saying?
Although I like the 5W30, I actually run QSUD 0W20 in my 4.7, because it offers almost the same protection but flows better, especially at startup, which is when the most wear occurs. Engine seems to like it... I'm currently at 317K mi on all original drivetrain.
Last few years, I usually use Pennzoil synthetic from walmart, made from natural gas. But you're better off applying your focus on changing your oil on a solid routine, and not trying to maximize the oil lifespan and saving a couple bucks. Instead, focus on maximizing your engine's lifespan.

Pennzoil and Quaker State are sister oils, both made by Shell.
You can click my link above and do "Ctl-F", then type in "natural gas" (or any other oil's identifiers) and jump to the ratings for that particular oil.
