What kind of metal are these valve covers made of ? I want too paint them. DIY Style

Default What kind of metal are these valve covers made of ? I want too paint them. DIY Style

Need too know what sort of metal my valve covers are made from.
Thead are from a 2005 ram 5.7 hemi. But I need too know what kindOf metal so Im using the right prep and painting materials. DIY Rattle can.

Aren't they cast aluminum? See if a magnet sticks to 'em.

I would normally say why don't you take one off and actually look at it lol.....but yes, they are aluminum. Can't tell just by looking at them? Bare steel that color doesn't stay that color for long (rust) and I can already see aluminum oxide buildup just in your picture.

Nope magnet doesn't snap too it.

Valve covers are bare aluminum. Not steel or your rite they would be rusty.
I have 88 k miles on them. Could I use the factory gasket set or replace bothSides while I'm at it ? Remember I'm wanting to too paint my covers.
with VHT Black Wrinkle rattle can paint. Then plugs and Taylor red shorttie plugWires.
I'll post a seperate question about replacing valve cover gaskets tips and tricks
Sort of question?

Use new gaskets. I never believed the whole 're-usable' thing.

Today I pulled plug wires, coil packs, and plugs. I labeled and seperate everything into zip locks even down tooWhich plug from hole and bagged plugs seperate. Zero confusion. This way. It took some tedious work andTime consuming but enjoyable and fun. I'll be able too post pcs of all 16 plugs and beagle too show you cylender Both plugs come from and which plug was the coil pack plug. Everything's been bagged and tagged. If anyone's interested.
master plug readers out there can tell me my trucks future.

I completely agree. While I have my COPs out can you give me a crash course on testing them withMy multimeter for continuity ? Andy any other sort of tests I should be having a look at perform ?
I also have a computer safe probe lite, and a 6 and 12 volt test probe.
You may remember I've had that intermitant 3 second long crank then start.
