Hemi down
Hey y'all first time on here. I have an 05 ram 5.7 130k miles. Religiously serviced with synthetic since new. I was omw home from work cruising around 70 went to pass someone and truck revved up but didn't go anywhere so I thought well I caught the bad transmission flu and so I chilled and just cruised home thought I would get off at earlier exit keep rpms lower when I did truck cut off and wouldn't start. I'm like aw alternator went out. So I got it towed to house and for s*#ts and giggles I tried to start it started right up but had a hard knock. Idk where to start. Obviously tear down but I am scared to bc of the price tag going up. Any thoughts before my pocket starts crying?
Yeah it's definitely a knock already had the tick. Was planning on headers soon but ya know. Also forgot to mention that it won't stay running it will start right up but I have to give it gas to keep running. It was little low on oil but no more than it usually makes disseapear. I was thinking motor but there is certain centiment to the entire vehicle as it was my father's and he has cancer.

You've described both a transmission and engine problem in your initial post. For the knock, generally engine knock occurs gradually as rod bearing gaps increase. You have changed the oil regularly and used quality oil, so I would not suspect internal damage yet. When you do the check heyyou recommends and if it still knocks, try to locate the exact source of the knock. A two foot length of garden hose that you hold to your ear is one technique for locating knocks.
The first place I'd look is fuel management. Is it possible you have low octane gas or water in your tank? There are products to help with water in fuel, iso heet being one of them. I'd recommend getting 91 octane gas and adding iso heet and a fuel injector cleaner.
Also consider cleaning the fuel injectors separately. At 130k miles it is a good ideas anyway.

If it's definitely a knock, don't run it more than you have to. If it throws a rod you lose your core charge if you put another engine into it. A knock can often be rebuilt. A thrown rod may perforate the oil pan or even the block making it worthless for rebuilding.
So ran with off still knocking. It gets nothing but premium gas. I run a bottle of seafoam once a month through it. I'ma start tearing down soon as it warms up and just face whatever the math is. Just hate it.
