Early 02 ram 1500 engine swap help.
Just bought an 02 early 4.7. Rod knocking. Can this engine be fixed? I was told that I have to use a early 02 engine only,
can't use 03,04,05 ect. Because late 02 has 4 plugs on computer and early has 3 plugs with the trans being separate. Can you swap a Hemi? I was also told that only an 03 hemi could be shaped in it . NEED HELP.

1999-2002 have a 16 tooth tone ring and 3 plug JTEC PCM
2003-2007 have a 32 tooth tone ring and 4 plug NGC PCM
Either find a 99-02 used engine, buy a reman, get yours rebuilt or find a newer one as long as you're willing to yank the crankshaft to swap tone rings. Don't try to fix your truck by attempting a hemi swap.
