Default Oil Pump Change

I am thinking of changing my oil pump/pickup tube and wondering the following. I hve changed them before on Ford's, but not a dodge. Do you have to remove the blets, water pump and everything off the front to get to the oil pump, etc.? Just trying to decide if I replace everything on my back up on the rebuild of everything. Do it while I am there.

What problem are you having to necessitate replacing the pump?

It is the 5.7L and a afew times that I have started the truck, I get the check gauges light and my oil gauge is sitting at L (all the way to the left). Maybe something simple, but wondered about the pickup tube being clogged, etc. It has 213,000 miles. Usually if I shut the truck off, get it a second and start it again, it then is fine.

And I did wonder that. At the end of the day, my water pump is leaking for sure and I think it is eating away at the front of my oil pan gasket. Which makes me nervous that will need to be replaced also. This is why I wondered about doing it all.

I suppose, if you are going to be RIGHT THERE anyway, sure wouldn't hurt anything to change it. I would be real tempted to replace the pressure sending unit as well.

Replacing an oil pressure sender and a water pump, sure sounds easier than an oil pump job. If your pressure truly dropped to zero, that engine should be sounding harsh. I'd check the oil pressure with a gauge. You can rent those for free when you return em.
