Yours is indeed a third gen. Receptacle for what? Trailer harness? The only plug and play harness I am aware of for that would be from the dealer..... Don't know if any aftermarket companies also offer it. If your truck didn't come with the tow package, likely you are going to have to do some wiring in any event. (if you want a 7 pin connector.)

Have you located a plug or wiring for a trailer connector? If you have trailer connector wiring it will be running down the driver's side. If you have the wiring it may be terminated somewhere near the rear shock. Follow the wiring from the tail lights forward and see where they go into a larger bundle.
Companies like etrailer, Curt, and Hopkins make harnesses and have customer support lines.
When selecting your wiring harness, consider how you want to expand in the future. You may add a tailgate light bar or LED work lights, these will plug into a 4 pin plug. Guarantee your son is going to want to dress it up someday.

As suggested about future use, I'd wire in a 7 pin plug, Those can always be adapted to a 4 wire harness with an adapter for a simple trailer light setup.
The 7 pin gives you trailer brake capacity.

I called and talked to a curt rep, he gave me some ideas and sent me 3 different parts, a socket, receptacle, and a plug harness, none of it was right, so its going back, I went online and finally found the right part at o'reillys, (at least I hope its right), its a hopkins plug in simple 42135, looks like it will make it work, Im guessing I can cut the 4 flat off and wire that too the socket I bought at advance and it will work?
