Default Stalling and Surging issues

Stalling and Surging

2005 Ram 1500 4x4 5.7 Hemi Sport. In New Zealand
Owned since new with 96k on the clock.

Approximately two years ago the truck stalled when nearly stopped at a set of lights. Restarted immediately and drove off. Since then then the stalling has become progressively worse. Happened twice at a roundabout. Luckily it is slow speeds and can get stopped and restarted quickly.

It seems to be at very slow speeds when I have just given the throttle a blip to move ahead or reverse into a park or similar. Since then it will now stall when in neutral or park and I give the throttle a blip up to 1300 rpm or so. Sometimes it drops below 500 rpm and recovers and sometimes it stalls. Restarts easily straight away.

It has now started surging slightly around the 1300 rpm mark, but once over 1500 rpm it takes off as usual.

After reading several online articles it seems I am not alone, but can’t seem to find any real fix. I live In NZ so getting parts is not as easy as dropping down to an Autozone or Similar USA store.

So far have replaced:

Plugs, Throttle Body & Gasket, MAP Sensor, PCV Valve, Air intake Charge Temp Sensor, All 02 Sensors, Crank Sensor, EGR Valve.

I have seen a P0404 code come up twice after changing the EGR Valve. It usually clears itself next time I use.

Have checked wires from EGR and traced as may earth wires as I can see (pretty limited)

Had at local Dodge Shop who checked Fuel pressure and completed a smoke test for Vacuum leaks. They have no idea, but did tell me they have a memo with 18 different types of stalling issues on their records. Nothing to really help with mine.

I am waiting on a new set of coils and leads to see if this helps.

Would really like to get this sorted as it is a little dangerous when driving around town, not to mention it is getting expensive!!

Thanks

That's throttle by wire, isn't it? (no throttle cable from pedal to throttle body) Pedal possition sensor might be getting flaky. Also, some have solved this by running a ground wire to the throttle body......

Thanks for prompt reply, and yes it is throttle by wire. I did pull the connector of the throttle pedal sensor just in case it had a little corrosion. will try the ground wire to TB and fit new coils when they arrive to see if that helps.
cheers

Do one thing at a time, and see which one actually fixes it.

Hi,
TPS is part of the complete Electronic Throttle Body on this model. This was replace and recalibrated.
Thanks for the thought.

Hi,

Replaced Coil packs and all leads - no change
added earth wire from Throttle Body - No Change.

I have had the P0404 code back again. Ran 30 min down freeway, stopped for items and returned home. Noticed Cel light was on when heading home. next day the truck ran really badly. disconnected negative for 30 min and the CEL light disappeared. truck ran better, but still the surging at approx 1300 rpm and the random dipping of revs below 450, with a stall sometimes.
I am now convinced it is EGR-PCM-/Wiring related issue.
maybe:
1 New after market EGR is not working as intended. (Same symptoms as old EGR)
2 PCM is faulty in regards to EGR settings
3 Wiring or connections between PCM and other components

Will try and find a technician who can run a scan on EGR /PCM side of system
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
