Default 06, 1500 DOES run but sometimes gauges work and sometimes they don't

My 1500 Ram runs perfect, 234000mi. On occasion when I start the truck, some or all of the gauges do not work, but the truck starts and runs fine every time. The only warning light that comes on is the "check gauges indicator." Turning the key feels a little gummy or not smooth. It doesn't feel hung up or stuck at all. It just feels like its got a buildup inside the tumbler causing it to turn sticky like. Usually when I change the key or turn off and restart with a little quicker or strict motion it begins to work again. I have read all about the clusters, but the common denominator seems to be those won't start and numerous cluster lights come on, but mine will start and only the guage light. Also mine works after I play with the key turn cycle.
What am I or are there common issues with the tumblers and ignition switch?
Thanks

Are the lock cylinder and ignition switch separate pieces? Or do they come as an assembly? I would more suspect the ignition switch itself.....

I'm pretty sure they are separate pieces, but I haven't had it apart yet.

Do all the guages not work when it happens or just a couple gauges dont work? The solder points on the 06 cluster are a common issue. Loosening the screws on my cluster got my tach to work again. Also try holding the trip/reset button when you key on to test the gauges and make them do a test sweep.

Could be a connection problem. Maybe try tapping or hitting the cluster. Maybe do the same with your key ignition. Could also see if temperature is a factor. Hot days my tach reads about 700 rpms low. Winter time it works almost flawless.
