Default 2004 dodge ram 1500 spectre cold air intake

I have a question i hope someone can anwser i have a spectre cold air intake box installed on my 2004 dodge ram 1500 4.7l v8 and my filter wore out and the auto parts store only had one that would fix but i had the take the metal air cleaner box/encloser off for it to fit now my question is does it matter much that i had to take the box off or will i lose hp? Should i try to find a filter that will fit with the box on or keep it this way? Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you for your time

CAI doesn't get you anything anyway. The STOCK system is a cold air system. As it sits now, your is drawing hot air from the engine compartment. Yeah, that is gonna cost you some power. In all reality, there isn't CAI system out there that actually gives you any more power. All of their claims aside, the stock system is fine for anything short of racing.

Might be easier to find stock replacement parts in the junkyard.

That my friend is an HAI; Hot Air Intake, because you are literally pulling hot air from right under the hood. You need something that seals with a partition to the hood and is open to the front area like the OEM intake or put an OEM intake back on it. Probably have some luck finding a stock setup on ebay.

My truck has the same air intake. The spectre filter broke off it’s flange and was laying in the box. 😤 I found a K&N that fit in there. I’ll get the part number if ya want it.
