Hey everyone!
I have a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, last week winter started in Alberta Canada and i switched the truck into 4wd Auto, the light came on on the dash and went solid, indicating all shift conditions have been met.
Yet the truck is still in 2wd.
Went to 4wd lock and 4wd LOW and same thing, indicator on dashboard is SOLID indicating everything is fine yet truck remains in 2wd.
Referred to manual and tested the NEUTRAL button located just below the electronic shift **** and shifted the transfer case into NEUTRAL as if preparing to tow the truck behind a motorhome and it shifted into neutral and it went into NEUTRAL with no issues.
Also no SERV 4X4 indicator is NOT on so as far as the truck is concerned, everything is working and fine, but its staying in 2wd.
'Took it to the garage and they said it was the transfer case chain, but i have never heard any slippage or grinding noise from the transfer case.
Not sure how chain could break or just stop engaging the sprockets if stretched without indications.
I dont go 4x4-ing or do any towing, all i do is when winter comes, i switch it to 4x4 Auto until summer.
Transfer case was quoted to me at $1800 Canadian plus labor.
Anyone have any suggestions or ran into this same issue?
Thanks!

Yea i switched it in to 4x4 Low and the light on the dash went SOLID so it's all good..
but truck still is in 2wd.
Looked at videos on youtube, and it appears the only thing it could be is the chain is broken but i would have thought i would have heard a snapping or grinding or something...

Yea the garage ordered the entire transfer case, for them it san easy IN / OUT job rather than fool around with repair kits and changing out various parts only to have the customer come back and complain they did it wrong. They are very complicated pieces of technology so i dont blame them.
The new transfer caser has a 3 year 160,000 km warranty so that is peace of mind.
I really wish someone else had this experience.
If this fixes it i will post it for others.
I will be REALLY disappointed if they change it and then they notice that the vacuum hose was split or that the harness plug was simply not all the way connected... I've see that on youtube but i would think that my dash lights would not be solid if that was the case.
