Default RESONATOR QUESTIONS ANSWERED! (Videos)

So, after all these threads about exhaust and which brand is best and to remove or not to remove the resonator... etc etc etc, I decided just to go outside and pull the back 4 feet of exhaust off my truck today while the wife was at the movies... Except for the one rusty bolt, this was about a 30 second job and almost anyone could do it, being that I'm 22 and have no mechanical experience... I just like to break ****. :P

Here are some quick pictures I snapped under the truck while working, I'll upload the videos in the next post.

PS - Hope you guys enjoy these pics and vids, they'll be the last for a while... I accidentally ran over my $400 digital camera while doing test runs today.

I really wish there wasn't a 500KB limit on posting. It sucks having to make a new post for every picture.

Okay, now for the good part... MOVIES. These are all encoded with the XviD codec, if you don't know what it is, it's a high compression codec used mostly for ripping dvd's... I used it to compress the videos from my digital camera. If you don't have it, you can get it here;

http://download.divxmovies.com/XviD-1.0.3-20122004.exe

Now links to my videos

http://members.shaw.ca/robert.ritchie/truck/001.avi (0.99MB) Clip of the truck bone stock, didn't mean to blow exhaust right on the camera, but hey what can you do? That was the least of the cameras worries today. :P

http://members.shaw.ca/robert.ritchie/truck/002.avi (296KB) Clip of me inside the truck, recording internal noise, still with the stock exhaust setup.

http://members.shaw.ca/robert.ritchie/truck/003.avi (666KB) Clip of the truck with the resonator removed. I love how the exhaust fires directly backwards now. And it sounds hella meaner.

http://members.shaw.ca/robert.ritchie/truck/004.avi (598KB) Clip of the truck driving by approximately 60MPH. I didn't mean to screech the tires, but it is quite cold here in Canada, the tires break loose pretty easily. You can definately say it sounds mean now. I love the lowwwwwwwwww rumble as it goes off camera.

http://members.shaw.ca/robert.ritchie/truck/005.avi (1.78MB) Clip of the truck taking off from a dead stop, accelerating to 100MPH, and then without realizing it, hitting a dirt road. The camera was stuffed under the rear headrest, excuse the rattling, I had the 4 foot section of exhaust resting on the fold flat storage. But the interior noise is awesome, it had that low rumble, but not even close to loud enough to get annoying. :P

All in all, removing the resonator is totally worth if, if you have 5 spare minutes, and you don't feel like getting a new muffler, just take off the resonator. :P

Questions and comments totally welcome.

That does it for me... my resonator is coming off the first chance I get. I wonder if it's smart to add on a couple of feet with a turn-down after the stock muffler?

I don't think it's really going to matter... My truck was undercoated, and if you're driving, there'll be plenty of air going underneath the truck to wisk away any exhaust gases... I guess if you sat parked with your foot on the gas pedal for hours on end you could eventually MAYBE melt the spare tire... I'm not going to worry about it.

I have a remote starter that I use in the mornings (basically to warm up the truck because I only drive a mile to the train station). I didn't even think of the heat build-up; I was just worried about the exhaust gases.

I was all set to buy a new muffler, but I think I'll try this out first. In my other posts, I was stating that I just wanted a little more sound, that's all. This might be the trick.

Thanks for going through all the trouble in posting pics and movies.
