2006 5.7 dies when cold
My truck started doing this recently since it got below freezing. I start it up and it runs and idles no problem but when I start driving and come to my first stop the engine dies on me, it will always crank and restart no problem. Once the engine or outside temperature warms up I don't have this issue. It is not throwing any CEL and runs great otherwise. Any ideas in how to fix it? I replaced the egr valve with one from autozone 6 months ago and had a crankshaft position sensor replaced as well.
Its more than likely the cold temp is causing the dying out. When the temp goes below freezing here. The transmission will not move the car forward. But will in reverse. Once the fluid gets warm enough then it moves thru all the gears. I would try to let the engine run for 10 mins before driving off. You could also think about replace the thermostat.
Sorry I'm not much help, the prior tip is what worked for me. I just had to let it warm up in neutral and that fixed my issues. Now that the weather is warming up I have not had any issues.
