I had a similar noise that got louder as the rpms rose when driving - although I had 2 broken exhaust manifold to engine bolts it wasn't where the sound came from. The problem was my exhaust system to manifold clamp bolts were loose and tightening them up got rid of the noise.

My manifold bolts that were broken flush were easily removed by using a dremel to cut a slot on the top and then use a blade tip screwdriver to remove. Engine being warm will also aid in removal.

I will do that for preventative maintenance but I do believe it is a worn-out bearing or spun bearing. My brother owned the truck before me and replaced the power steering pump. While in the process knocked off the oil pressure sensor so it was dumping oil out of it and showing no oil pressure and he kept driving. it tried to overheat and he filled it with oil and replaced the sensor. also, it has been running on low oil a lot before I got it so it would make sense that it needs rod bearings. also the only place you can really hear the noise while by the engine is from the oil pan and the lower end.

Mine has the lower main bearing noise as well, sounds like a diesel at idle and low rpms. Been this way for 2 years and thankfully not getting louder and it runs strong still.

Good luck with your engine work.
For my education, could you tell me what your oil pressure was reading at cold idle, warm idle, and at cruising speeds?
Pls post pictures of the re-build if you can.

okay so it didn't work
the oil pressure is the same all the time cold or hot also I completely forgot to take pictures of the crank or the bottom. now for the new information, the rod bearings that were messed up are 4 and 8. also the whole repair went good I didn't have to lift the engine it was very simple. also, I tracked the knock down more it sounds like it is coming from the exhaust but in reality, it is coming from the top end of the motor more specifically cylinder numbers 5 and 7 which is weird because the broken manifold bolt is at 8. I pulled the valve cover and the valves look fine is there a way I can test them. I don't know very much about overhead cam engines I mostly know about pushrod engines. I also checked the codes and I have cylinder two misfire which is because the bolt that holds down the ignition coil is broken so it likes to scoot up. also, I have a cylinder 7 misfire which is rather new. my plan is to zip tie two down erase the codes and replace 7 sparkplugs and coil and see if it comes back.

Turn the engine so both valves on the cylinder in question are fully closed. See how much slop there is in the rocker arm...... might just be the lifters are seized, and not pumping up properly.

okay, so I did that all the rockers front to back have the same play. Also while driving it is missing occasionally nare there any common problems that can cause this. also should I be worried about it could It be like the Hemi tick? i am probably going to do a compression test and if that doesn't do anything I will stick a boroscope down there and see what I can see.

Probably not valve trains noise then..... as if one of them was noisy, given your results there, I would expect ALL of them to be noisy, if one of 'em was.

How loud is the tick? Not just injector noise is it??
