this is what i found on cams:

New XFI™ 5.7 & 6.1- Liter Hemi Camshafts COMP Cams®’ new XFI™ (Xtreme Fuel Injection) camshafts for Hemi-powered Chrysler vehicles dramatically increase engine horsepower and torque, yet retain compatibility with all OEM vehicle computer systems. Available in three different profiles (XFI™ 260, 268 and 273), the new camshafts are uniquely engineered for street performance and towing applications.

In recent dyno tests performed on a Chrysler Hemi engine (outfitted with COMP’s #26918 Beehive™ valve springs and upgraded exhaust), the XFI™ 260 camshaft netted 20 additional ft pounds of peak torque in lower rpm ranges and 31 additional horsepower. Stepping up, the XFI™ 268 camshaft added 14 ft pounds of torque at low rpm and 47 additional peak horsepower. Amazingly, COMP’s XFI™ 273 camshaft yielded it’s most significant horsepower increase (over 4500 rpm) generating 61 horsepower more than the stock Hemi 5.7-Liter camshaft.

....and hypertech and superchips claim gains of 15-20hp and 30lb/tq with a $350 programmer.......

not gonna happen.

you will see the high hp gains WAYY up top...like mentioned (above 4500-5k rpms).....but you arent seeing the amount posted unless you have every little supporting mod.....I doubt these numbers were acheived with cams only.

those #'s are probably in conjunction with intake,headers,high-flow cat, exhaust.

just like when a supercharger says up to 150hp gains.....(when used with intake, exhaust, headers, etc.)

so all in all...those cams alone are only giving you about 30-40% of what they claim.

I contacted Comp Cams to find out the scoop.they told me the cam power claims were made on an engine dyno with headers on 89 octane gas, except the biggest of the 3 grinds, which was tested on 92 octane,They claim these were the only things done to the engine besides swapping valve springs, but i dont know, sure seems like alot of power for a 350$ cam,i would like to hear from someone that has one of these to see if they really work as advertised

If I'm not mistaken, those cams dyno tests were also done on crate motors. Not engines managed with our truck pcms. Your best bet for a cam is to contact KRC so you can get the custom pcm tune that requires them to function properly when matched to a PCM.

And what was said above. Bigger cams mean your power curves slide to the right. You're not gonna put in a perf cam and get gobs of tq down low and gobs of power up high. You'll end up with low end loss and a much stronger pull up high. These trucks need gobs of tq down low for the hole shot. I'm dying to see the cam change ETs though. I saw one person lose .2 in the 1/4 with the 6.1 cam. Not sure if that was weather or traction aiding that loss. We need some more testings other than butt dyno's.

dont even bother with comp cams they have so many problems and they are constantly updating there bad work, i just ordered my cam from dodge, its off a 6.1 hemi and it only cost me 150.00
i have gone the other forums like dodgetruckworld.com & hemitruckclub and have spoken to guys who have had this mod done and say its great i have seen dyno charts with this cam and a couple other bolt ons like intake & exhaust and they were getting 61 rwhp putting them over 300 hp to the wheels and not even touching there springs retainers or pushrods ( even though they recommend it) i would def. recomend getting one from mopar. i tried a local dealership in san diego but they said its a restricted item but i know someone who can get them anyway who works at a dealership in texas. email me if you want his info.
