Been trying to find an aftermarket camshaft for 5.7 hemi but all the information I find is old and outdated due to California's changing laws. Is there a aftermarket California CARB compliant cam made for this engine.
They don't do a teardown, however they will notice an off color idle and I assume CA still does tailpipe sniffers up to a certain year? You won't find a CARB legal aftermarket cam for any engine anywhere. If you get a mild one and get it tuned right you'll have a decent idle and won't ping you on emissions.

That's what I'm worried about it's a 06 so they probably will hook up the sniffer, but that's good to know there's no CARB approved performance cam made. I'm thinking I could put the cam I really want on after the truck smogs? And just have to take it off if I go to sell it.
How often do you get inspected? Changing a cam twice a year doesn't sound like any fun at all to me.
That's a good question.. I looked it up and I live in a rural part of CA that only requires smog inspection when you change ownership so the biannually or every year smog would not apply to my area.

This statement tells me that you don't really understand what is involved here or what a cam is other than it's an engine part. Let me put it in perspective for you: to install a cam requires ripping off the entire front of then engine, the intake manifold and possibly the heads, depending on the cam; remove timing chain, remove cam from the middle of the block, then reverse all that and hope you didn't screw up the timing; upload tuning or restore stock tuning; EVERY SINGLE TIME.
