Exclamation engine swap 5.7 to a 4.7

Looking for info about swapping a 5.7 Hemi( no compression on #6 and spitting fuel out the tailpipe) to a 4.7 Magnum. go a heck of a deal on this 4.7 so I'm gonna run with it. but how big of a project is this swap? what should I expect? swap is gonna be in a 2004 Ram 2500. Tia

Just get a replacement 5.7 lol, this will be more trouble than it's worth and you're gonna be pissed off about that missing 100+ hp. This ain't like the old days where you can just swap **** around and good to go.

+1 .... buy the 4.7 and flip it for a profit, then get a 5.7.

No way I would do that, get rid of the 4.7 they are junk and if it is good there are plenty of people looking for one. There is a reason they never put them in a 2500.

Most people who say the 4.7 is junk never owned one. I'm sure you're different tho. Tell us about the one you have/had.

Mine is at almost 340K and no rebuilds. Daily driver....Basic care is all she gets.
That said, I'd look for another 5.7 as it would be the least troublesome route.

LOL I have worked on enough of them that I know not to own one.

Unlike you, I've owned both a 5.9 and this 4.7L. Both were very reliable but this 4.7 has way more miles and is paired with a much better tranny. There are a ton of these on the forum and I've seen guys who got over 500K out of them, so to each his own. Most I've done to this engine was change out lifters and valve stem seals.

You have owned one, the reliability of an engine isn't based on one. Some people never had an issue with their 6.0 Powerstroke either, but statistically it the worst diesel engine Ford ever used, same goes for the 4.7, some are reliable but the majority are not.

My father had a 4.7 and put it through hell and it was great. I also had a 4.7 for a bit and it ran perfect and did the job well. I think that it really does depend on how well the vehicle has been manitained. I think it's fair to say that if you slack around with maintenance, you'll be killing off more time on your vehicle. Obviously the 5.7 is better considering the power difference while getting essentially the same exact gas mileage, but the 4.7 is great when religiously taken care of if you don't need all the extra power and such.

Let's see... you think owning just one precludes me from speaking about the reliability, but you having never owned one, can deem the majority unreliable. LOL.

Like I said, plenty of folks on here with more miles than you'll ever see on anything you own. I'll say again, with basic care, they are very reliable. Know a few folk with these engines personally, none have any major issues...they just keep going.
