Default 2006 1500 trans failing?

I have a 06 1500 5.7L hemi rwd that I fear the transmission is dying. First symptom was a feeling of a loss torque on acceleration. Engine rev like normal but trans response weak. Next day shifting into D or R from Park was hard, clunky, and lack of power worse. Made it home from work and afraid to risk making it worse. Priced a trans replacement at around 4K in my area. Any thoughts y'all have as to where to check/replace parts before going all in would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't have a "local" shop, found one 95 miles away that would rebuild it for the same money as a new one, and no warranty on the work. So... not a great option. I am trying to decide if it's worth putting the $$ into, or if I'd come out better just selling it as is and cut my losses. Truck isn't valued much above trans cost if it were running good.

Your symptoms could be due to poor fluid flow or blockage.
Are you confident that your trans fluid is good, at proper level? Both filters clean and no blockage in trans cooler? Gear shift linkage in good condition and moving smoothly? Have you used a quality code reader? A summary of your trans maintenance and troubleshooting would be helpful.

Fluid level and condition good. Filters unknown, I don't have facilities to open the trans. Linkage is smooth with no slop or excessive play. Truck bought used a 2 years ago, from widow of original owner, maintenance history not recorded. I have not done anything to trans, Fluid color and condition have been good, no leaks. I do not have a code reader, and haven't really begun troubleshooting. Symptoms just started a few days ago. Asking for advice here as to where to start, I know very little about transmission stuff. Apologies for my ignorance.

Fluid and filter change might be a good place to start...... (but, NOT a flush.)
