Default 03 Dodge Ram 2500 Alignment Issues

I have a 03 Ram 2500 4x4. I've noticed that I've been having excess outside tire wear. So not too long ago I purchased & installed this:

6pc Drag Link Tie Rod Ends Kit Fits 2003-2008 Dodge Ram 2500 3500 4WD 4x4 | eBay

I took it in for an alignment. The shop manager said that they got it as "close as they can" due to the steering box is "going bad" & giving them problems, not to mention "that I have an old truck"

They never said anything to me prior to doing an alignment. They just took my $, meanwhile, I still have problems with excess outer tire wear. Anyone have any suggestions on what may be causing it?

Got the spec sheet for your alignment? It should list what they set things to, and what specs are. Sounds like a camber problem to me.... which would be ball joints, or bent axle.

I never got a spec sheet for alignment, that's part of the problem with that company.

An upper & lower ball joint kit on Amazon:

Think I would inspect the joints before just replacing them....... Also gotta be REAL careful on fitment, given the description of those, I would not trust that their application chart is accurate.....

You may want to look at videos on checking ball joint play. I'd also rec a visual inspection of the ball joint boots. Replacing the lower ball joints of a 4wd is some work.

The truck is almost 20 years old. Parts wear out. If you plan on keeping the truck you might consider a parts replacement schedule, including upgrading the steering linkage from gen 3 to gen 4. This is cheaper than a new truck.
